RFP-USA Executive Council Convenes in NYC
The Executive Council of Religions for Peace – USA met on June 25, 2019 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City to review organizational progress and make plans for the next 18 months. About 15 member organizations attended the meeting which included a session on identifying focus themes for the next 18 months. The themes reviewed and discussed included immigration, religious literacy, religious freedom, addressing poverty, reducing polarization, and alleviating racial as well as religious tensions in the US.
Following the meeting, several members of the Executive Council of Religions for Peace – USA attended the Thirteenth Religion and Foreign Policy Workshop held June 25-26 at the headquarters of Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) at the invitation of the CFR. The opening session was a conversation with Sam Brownback, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom of the US Department of State. In his remarks Ambassador Brownback focused on the recently released 2019 Annual Report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. Following the public remarks, several representatives of Religions for Peace – USA met with Ambassador Brownback to express concerns over religious freedom abroad and at home in the US.
