Building Community

The root of conflict is often basic disregard for the humanity of a group of people.

Peace is much more than the reverse of this prospect.

Strategic action, based on values deeply shared and widely held,  in coordination with senior religious leaders across the nation: this is a platform for our work in building community. The root of conflict is often basic disregard for the humanity of a group of people. Peace is much more than the reverse of this prospect. It is a deep respect for the differences and commonalities within humanity. Pluralism and diversity are active states of society where groups and individuals work together across these divides of religion, ethnicity, culture and race in order to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Religions for Peace USA’s work in building community takes us all over the country and over an array of issues. Our work is built upon values that persist across these issues and challenges and hold us to a our vision. Where communities are divided along religious lines, our multi-religious partnerships bridge those divides and help both sides appreciate their shared values. At the same time, we actively promote democracy, citizenship and good governance, in order to build inclusive societies in which all voices are heard.

“A safe society inherently focuses on issues of just peace – everlasting peace in which all are equal, and where compassion, justice, and reconciliation prevail. The task of working on peacemaking is the responsibility of people of faith and goodwill.”
